It can be overwhelming, when trying to buy enough furniture to fill an entire house. You are going to need furniture for every room in the house, whether you have decided to completely redecorate your existing home, or you are moving into your first home.

Story of Lacks Furniture

Sam Lack, a Russian immigrant started his first store in McAllen, Texas in 1935. So, Lacks Company was founded. Lack chose South Texas for its beautiful countryside and tropical climate, although he had seen many parts of the country. In a modest building at the corner of Main and Beaumont in downtown McAllen, his successful career as a merchant began.

During the 1930’s, America began its  love affair with automobiles. In order to create a specialty business selling auto parts, their growing accessibility convinced Lack. His business flourished, with tireless support from his family and under his watchful eye. Lack built his second store in Edinburg only three years after opening. And then Lack also opened new stores in Weslaco and Mission.

The U.S. economy was pretty hard during the war in the 1940s. Along with gasoline and food, auto parts were rationed. Determined to succeed,Lack began offering household appliances. Since the stores began, the first new product category was also made. Lack’s business transformed from a small auto parts chain into an appliances operation and full-scale furniture store. And then, Myles Aaronson, Sam’s son-in-law began helping him run the family business. Myles later began his own expansion program, after he  purchased the Weslaco store from Sam. The company is called Lacks Associated Valley Stores, Inc. In 1990, Mission and Edinburg stores were purchased by Aaronson. In 1995, the company changed its name to Lacks Valley Stores, Ltd.

Nowadays, Lacks Company has twelve outlets in south Texas from Port Isabel to Laredo. With 140,000 square feet, Lacks Galleria in McAllen is the largest furniture store in Texas. In 2011, there are two newer stores in San Benito and Alice.
